Orange County Theater Engagement Session | Kelli-Rae+Dan=Engaged

Today, we share with you the beautiful love story of Kelli-Rae and Dan. I have known Kelli-Rae for a little over two years now, we used to work together. A few of us ladies got together from the old workplace for lunch a few months back so we could catch up on all that had been going on in our lives since we last saw each other. We had seen on Facebook that Kelli-Rae was engaged but finally got to get all of the details and see her fabulous ring in person. She told us the story of how the two made a little escape to the Embassy Suites for the night and as they arrived and took a moment on the balcony with some champagne, he gave her a letter that read:

“This is the day I ask you to be my wife” she looked down and he was on one knee and asked her “Will you marry me”. After 5 years of dating she said “YES”!

I was so happy when Kelli-Rae asked us to do her engagement session photos, they wanted to do something different and creative. I know Dan is a writer, he recently had a premiere for his horror film Farmhouse and Kelli-Rae loves theater and music. Since I have known her she has been in a few productions and also had the opportunity to get on stage and sing with the band Sugarland! We have had the opportunity to sing together as well, there has been a time or two of Karaoke together for office parties, good times. That is what she wanted the session to be all about, good times and so we decided on doing their session in a local Theater. It was something that represented both of them, they have a total love for movies, and that is one of the things they love doing together. She wanted them to just have fun, throw popcorn at each other and be in the moment. We ended up shooting in Garden Grove at the The Gem Theater where Kelli-Rae recently performed in the production “The Best Little Whore House in Texas”.

We had an awesome session in the theater and also walked around the house and downtown Garden Grove…as we documented the excitement and love of the two’s engagement. They were a fun couple, full of love, laughter and moments and so we share with you Kelli-Rae and Dan…we had an amazing time documenting your engagement and love, thanks for sharing with us. Congrats to you both! J+D

The two will be using one of these images with the marquee for their Save the Dates…so cool!

New Orleans Street Portraits | Orange County photographer

Happy Monday to everyone!  Just wanted to drop in, and show off a few pics I shot when Dana and I were on vacation a couple weeks ago.  This being my fifth trip to New Orleans, I’ve seen most everything.  Over the past 10 years, the main things that keep bringing me back are the amazing food, the great music, and incredible people watching.  In and around the French Quarter, there are dozens of musicians at any given time, playing in the street and drawing crowds.  It’s always a ton of fun, and always makes for fun photos!  Hope ya like them!

Woman in Jackson Square watching the Jazz Band playing

The Jazz Band in Jackson Square- I’ve been photographing these guys since my first trip 10 years ago.  The lineup always changes a bit, but the trombone player/singer has always been the same!

This guy was just jammin’ on the clarinet!  I also thought he was going to beat down a guy across the street that set up a drum kit, and was trying to drown him out!

Not really a portrait, but I saw this guy a few times over the course of a couple days, and really dug his Tall Bike.  I just happened to have my camera out and at the ready to finally snap off a few frames!

It’s business time, Business Portraits, Orange County, CA

It’s Monday and it’s business time! As most of you know Jeff and I are a very easy-going and casual couple who likes to have fun. As you scroll through our website and blog at  Sipper Photography you will see a more relaxed lifestyle portrait when it comes to engagement and family portrait sessions. We have carried this style through to our business portraits as well, so your profile photos are more relaxed, fun and show the real you.

Recently, we put together this collage of some individual portraits that have been used for both personal and business use. Most of these were shot for various business people in Orange County to promote their business. Some wanted a nice casual shot as well for use on many of their social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.  It seems like it is so important these days to put a face to a name. I know in the photography business it is great for your clients to see a photo of you while they are looking at your website or blog. It allows for more of a personal experience and it makes them feel like they already know you when they actually meet you. I don’t know how many times people have mentioned the shot of Jeff and I against the brick wall, you can see it here. They always remember that was Sipper Photography, J+D. We have learned a great profile photo is a very important part of your branding and what you want to represent as an individual or company.

We have worked with many great people and have had our photos in various magazines, brochures and online for websites, blogs and social media sites. We love what we do and it is a fabulous feeling knowing that we are helping to make others successful. If you are in need of a new or updated profile photo for business or personal use, visit us at Sipper Photography. Have a great week, J+D!

Broughton Magazine Summer 2009, Orange County Commercial Portraits

The new issue of the Broughton Magazine is out and Sipper Photography is one of the contributing photographers this summer. This is our third issue that we have contributed to and we continue to meet some wonderful people and visit many areas where the Broughton properties are located.

Our first shoot was a profile shot of the artist Peggy Oki.  I spoke with Peggy on the phone previously about the shot, and what I had in mind to feature her. She described the perfect spot in which we would shoot, and so we headed up the coast to the Carpinteria Bluffs. When we arrived at Peggy’s home, we chatted for a bit and got a chance to view the art on her walls. We needed to finalize her wardrobe for the portrait, so she wanted me to take a peek in her closet to see what she should wear. She explained that most of the time, she dressed accordingly in her shorts, a tank and flip flops whether she was off to paint or surf some waves, that was all a girl needed. So, I put my “stylist hat” on and I rooted through Peggy’s closet, during this time Jeff happened to look over and saw an autographed poster from the film Lords of Dogtown on the wall. It was at that moment that he realized she was one of the original Zephyr team riders. Peggy Oki was the only girl on the skateboarding team that eventually went pro. She starred in the documentary film Dogtown and Z-Boys. Later, she studied Biology & Art where her passion for sea life and painting came about. It truly was an honor to meet her and spend time photographing her.

We had a great time with Peggy, here is the feature shot that Broughton used in the article about Peggy Oki where my vision became reality.

The shoot was such a great success that I wanted to share a few more our favorite images. We hope that you will check out her online gallery and Origami Whales Project at Peggy-Oki.com.

A special thanks to Peggy, your passion is an inspiration!

Our next venture for the Broughton Magazine was a trip out to Palm Springs, where we had feature shots of a boutique store and a profile shot of the General Manager of the Andreas Hotel & Spa.

Oooh La La was Broughton’s featured boutique which is located in Downtown Palm Springs. I had walked by there on the morning of the Tour de Palm Springs back in February after seeing Jeff off to ride. I remembered taking a photo of the mannequins they had in the window. What a fun place, full of women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, baby items, pet stuff and gift ideas. It was great to go in and photograph all the little details of this boutique. We had several photos featured in this spread, here are just a few.

The Store Front

You can’t miss the dog outside and the mannequins in the window…stop in next time!

Finally, we met Charlie Robles, the General Manager of the Andrea Hotel and Spa. Broughton includes a spotlight section that features one of the employees in the company. They truly have some wonderful people working in the Broughton family. Charlie was a fun and witty guy and we enjoyed meeting him and visiting the Andreas property again. We actually stayed there last August and just loved it!

Thank you Charlie for your time, you rock!

We invite you to check out the entire issue of Broughton Magazine as well as Broughton Hospitality for your next getaway. Until next time! J+D

OC Blog Crush @ The Veggie Grill

Well as most of you know, we have really gotten into our blog this past year! We just love sharing our work with everyone and writing about all the fabulous people we meet at our sessions. I used to love to write poetry when I was younger, I had so much time to sit with my thoughts and reflect on life. It seems as adults we don’t take the time to just sit and relax with our thoughts and be inspired. All we do these days is make our way through the hustle and bustle of daily life and we forget to stop and take a moment to feel inspired. Most of our blogs are about our work, but this work inspires me, so I feel I can escape with my blogs and just think about these moments. Sometimes these moments are with people we just met, our friends, travels or just what is happening with us during the week (such as Jeff’s Weekly Rant’s…as I like to call them!) 🙂

Anyways, my point is that we love to write our blogs whether they are for work or play! We keep writing because sometimes opening a link to a blog makes someone’s day! Recently, we have had the opportunity to meet up with some other bloggers in Orange County to talk about why we write our blogs and just make some new friends. It is fun to chat with others who are into blogging and why they do it. We have all of these social groups that we all get caught up in, but it is nice to go out and just talk to people.

Last week we went to the Veggie Grill at the Irvine Spectrum and sat on their patio and just talked to people. It was a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet some new friends.

The Veggie Grill had some fabulous Salads & Sandwich’s. We had never eaten at a Vegetarian place before, but we’ll give it a go.  I always say try something once, and if you don’t like it, just don’t do it again! Jeff had the “Bean Me Up Chili”, he said he would order that again…I had a little taste and thought it was really good. I enjoyed the Bayou Chickin’ Sandwich…I thought of New Orleans when I ordered it…I just love the Cajun food. Surprisingly, I thought I was eating real chicken…it was delicious!

Our friend Suzanne and fellow blogger was there, and she had the Baja Fiesta Salad…it looked yummy…here it is!

Me + Suzanne…

Another friend and fellow blogger, Kristen of The Meringue Bake Shop was there with her Margarita cupcakes. It was the day after Cinco de Mayo, so we celebrated on Seis de Mayo with our delicious cupcakes. By the way, her red velvet cupcake is the “bomb” as well, so if you are looking for cupcakes for your next party or event you should check her out! Here is a shot of our fancy cupcake…all we need now is a Margarita, yum!

So it was an evening of Food, Cupcakes, New Friends and as always…a little photography! What can I say, these things make me happy. It was nice to meet all of you, even if we only got to chat briefly, hope to see you again soon.

Here are all of our blogs if anyone wants to read in their leisure…lots of good stuff going on!

P.J.’s Abbey Downtown Orange, CA

Yesterday was my birthday so I spent most of the day doing things for me. I started with a haircut & color because every birthday needs a new do! I have spoke about Hair by Kylee before, she works at the W Salon in Laguna Hills, so if anyone needs a new hairstylist, she is the one. You can reach her at 949.433.1279. As I left for my appointment, I decided to grab the camera and promised myself to just take a photo today, not for work, just for pure art & pleasure.

Later I met up with my mother-in-law Bev for my birthday lunch at P.J.’s Abbey restaurant in downtown Orange. We had both been there before, in the old Victorian style church such a beautiful setting for a restaurant. The food was great and as we sat and ate, my eye wandered at all beauty of the wood furnishings & stained glass windows, so here is where I would take my photo of the day…a birthday present to myself! As the place cleared out from the lunch crowd my photo opt was perfect. As I was shooting one of the owner’s came out and greeted me, he was the nicest man and told me some history of the stained glass windows. They were dedicated on an Easter Sunday mass in the late 1800’s and they were just beautiful. Here are a few of the shots I graced my birthday with, may you find some artistic passion in them as I have. Thank you Bev, for a lovely lunch and suggesting such an amazing place and to PJ’s Abbey.

Weekly Wednesday-Giving Thanks Edition!

Hey Everyone!

Well, tomorrow, here in the US, it’s Thanksgiving Day.  A day for getting together with family, eating waaaay more than we probably should, and generally giving thanks for all the things in our life.  Looking back over this year, we’ve got a ton to be thankful for.  We’ve met some wonderful people, got to take some great pictures, and really started to get our business up and running!

One of the wonderful people we had the chance to work with this year are the good people at Broughton Hospitality.  I had added Suzanne Broughton to my list of people to follow over on Twitter, and after checking out some of our blog entries, she shot us an email saying how she liked our work, and if we’d be interested in heading out to Palm Springs to take a few pics for their hotels’ magazine.  Heck ya!  Anytime, we can get out of town, and hit the road, you know we are down!

The magazine with our pictures came out a few weeks ago, and we got our copy when we stayed at the Wine Valley Inn up in Solvang, another one of their beautiful hotels!  Wow!  The pics look great!  The magazine looks great!  And we got our name, and a little bio on the contributor page! Sweeeeet!

The guy in the picture above is Tim Esser, who runs the Tour de Palm Springs Bike Ride.  He was a cool guy, and since I ride bikes as well, we talked some about different local rides and bike stuff.   He even offered me an invite to ride in next years ride.  Now just to get myself back in shape enough to roll 100 miles again!  Here is the the picture of him, not on the page! 🙂

A few weeks after we shot in Palm Springs we got another call from BQ to shoot one of their employees for the spotlight page in the back of the magazine.  We met up with Ever and his wife, who drove down from Santa Monica to the Orange Circle, and we wandered around shooting a few different places.  We loved his natural, relaxed look here.  He was fun to work with!

Here is his pic, not on the page!

If you want to check out the entire magazine online, visit Broughton Hospitality.  If you wanna check out a great, fun to read blog about life in Orange County, check out Suzanne’s Blog.  It’s chock full of good stuff!

Well, that’s all I have for this week.  Have a great Thanksgiving day, and watch our for flying rolls at the dinner table!  Oh wait, that’s just at my house.  I’ll post more about that another time!

Franjo, Kylee & Kaitlyn Orange County Family Photographer

Happy Monday to all…

We are just loving the blog thing. It motivates you to shoot as much as possible, so you can keep blogging. I love taking photo’s, photography really is our passion. I am so lucky that I get to share this passion with my hubby. When we were both in school for photography, neither one of us ever dated other artists or thought we would end up marrying another photographer.  We wouldn’t ask for it any other way because we both understand what it means to people to have there photo’s of family & friends and the events in there lives.

We love to shoot the bonds between people in beautiful locations. Lately, we have found ourselves in Downtown Orange, it is close by and this one location has a vast amount of possibilities.  This weeks session is a little more of Downtown Orange, Urban style. We had a great couple, Franjo & Kylee. Also, Kaitlyn who is Franjo’s 10 year old daughter who is gorgeous. Watch out dad because she will be a heart breaker.

Thanks guys for sharing your afternoon with us.  All of you photographed great! By the way, if you like Kylee and Kaitlyn’s hair, Kylee is a hairstylist at The W Salon in Laguna Hills, CA. You can reach her at 949-433-1279 for an appointment. She does my hair as well and I absolutely love it!

Enjoy and please let us know what you think by leaving us a comment.

Have a great week!
