Gatsby Theme Wedding at The Ebell Club Long Beach

I love, love, love this wedding.  Preston and Charity hosted their Great Gatsby theme wedding at The Ebell Club in Long Beach.  This is such a perfect wedding venue for both your wedding ceremony and reception.  When you scroll through the images you will see why.  I felt romantic there!  There were so many great spots for photography.  The bridal room was just gorgeous.  One of the best I have ever shot at.  The look of the room was grand and the lighting, just perfect as the bride got ready.   Charity was so happy, she just smiled all day.  Another favorite was the parlor with a huge fireplace and piano.  We shot the couples first look in there!  Also, for the first time, we shot a Marine sword ceremony as the bride and groom exited the Courtyard.  I was amazed, the guys, the uniforms it was a picture perfect moment.  There is love, romance and splendor with this wedding.  We hope you enjoy the photos.

Cheers to Preston and Charity! J+D

Los Angeles Arboretum Wedding | Danny + Sheri = Married

The Los Angeles Arboretum is a beautiful spot for a wedding!  Here Danny and Sheri were married on the great lawn in front of the Queen Anne Cottage.  This is the house that is featured in the opening scene of the show Fantasy Island!  The couple did a Hawaiian theme wedding style with a peacock feather color scheme.  It turned out so nice.  Looking back at the photos, it actually looked as if we were in Hawaii for this one.  A big congratulations to Danny and Sheri!  Thanks for having us share this wonderful day with you.

Cheers + Love,
J+D

New Orleans Where Y’At Magazine: Wedding Article Feature

For those of you who know us, you know that we LOVE New Orleans! Both Jeff and I have traveled to NOLA on several occasions as we just love that city.  We were just there in October eating some jambalaya and drinking hurricanes, as well as exploring the French Quarter.  This trip we also took a ride out to the beautiful Oak Alley Plantation and saw many other fabulous plantations along the way.  These are such great locations for Weddings in and around the New Orleans area.  One of the hot spots for weddings this past October was in Jackson Square and in the St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter.   What a great back drop to say your I-do’s and do your wedding photography.  Then there is nothing better than after the ceremony when the Treme Brass Band rolls up to start a second line for the couple as they dance and celebrate through the famous streets of the French Quarter including Bourbon Street! We actually joined a few second lines this time as we LOVE that New Orleans Jazz and of course LOVE anything weddings!

With our love for New Orleans and Weddings, one of our goal’s for 2012 is to get there for more weddings this year!  With this goal in mind we were so excited to have been quoted in a recent magazine article about New Orleans Weddings.  Where Y’At Magazine is a local New Orleans publication that recently featured an article about wedding trends in their January 2012 issue.  The local writer, Tyler Lott who is a New Orleans native reached out to us as she wanted our perspective from what we see with wedding trends in Southern California and how they coincide with the trends in New Orleans.  You can see the entire article online at Where Y’At magazine.  In the meantime, look here…it’s The Sipper’s and we are so excited to be a part of New Orleans Weddings too.

Sipper Photography is quoted twice in the New Orleans Wedding Article: The Many Ways to Say “I do”

So excited that our quote about wedding trends was chosen out of the article for the pull quote.

Los Angeles Arboretum Wedding | Stevie+Jaime = Married

Today we have a very special couple to share with you.  Recently, my friend Carolyn, who is a minister for So Cal Officiant referred us to Stevie and Jaime as they needed a photographer for their private wedding ceremony at the Los Angeles County Arboretum.  It was a Wednesday morning that I got the call from Carolyn letting me know she gave the couple our information for their ceremony on Sunday.  Short notice I thought, but when I spoke to Stevie on that Friday morning he mentioned he was a touring musician and had a break in his schedule, so they wanted to have their wedding ceremony.  Turns out that Stevie is the lead guitarist for the band Buckcherry and he wanted us to shoot his wedding.

We love the small, intimate wedding ceremonies and this truly was an amazing one to be a part of.  Jeff and I signed the couple’s marriage license as we not only photographed their vows, but were their official witnesses to them.

Carolyn performed a fabulous ceremony for the couple, I love, love, love her.  She has such a passion for performing weddings!  It truly was a pleasure to work with her.  If you are a bride or groom in the Orange County or Los Angeles area and are looking for an officiant-minister for your wedding ceremony, please contact Carolyn.

After the wedding ceremony we had the opportunity to capture some awesome moments between Stevie and Jamie.  I can truly say that they rocked it!  Afterwards we had lunch with the couple and since then even had the opportunity to see Stevie perform with Buckcherry as they played recently at the Verizon Amphitheater in Irvine.

Thanks so much Stevie and Jamie for sharing this special day with us.

All the best to you both!
J+D

Sportsmen’s Lodge Studio City Wedding | Martoinne+Rhea=Married

Well, this post is a little behind as we also traveled back East to Pennsylvania in June to shoot a wedding.  The last two weeks we have been playing some catch up, but are so excited to share with you photos from Martoinne and Rhea’s wedding that took place on June 5, 2011 at the Sportmen’s Lodge in Studio City, CA.  We had a wonderful couple and a fabulous venue, so the photo opportunities were great.  The Sportsmen’s Lodge has a beautiful garden ceremony location and this is where the two said their I-do’s.  When we met Marty and Rhea at our initial consult we instantly clicked with them and it made for a great capture on their day.  Rhea really liked the fact that we were a married photography couple and I think that shines through here.

The two met at church where two of Martoinne’s cousins introduced them.  After being a couple for 2 years, he proposed to Rhea at the Manhattan Beach Pier and she said Yes!!!!  These two are a young couple that knew they wanted to be together forever!  We could totally see this love as I teared up on a few occasions during their ceremony.  It all started with Marty singing to Rhea as she walked down the aisle, such a priceless moment.  He also sang part of his vows to her.  How Romantic?????

Congratulations Martoinne and Rhea!  Best Wishes for a long and happy marriage, it was a pleasure working with you both!  Now let’s dance!

Los Angeles Wedding Photographer | Brandon+Crystal=Married

Brandon and Crystal were married a year ago this past April.  They celebrated their one year anniversary with an official wedding reception with all of their friends and family together and we got to be a part of it.  We had met Crystal shortly before she got married last year and from the first time I met her, we clicked.  She was so excited about our photography from the first time she looked at our photos in one of our books at an event.  I loved her energy immediately and wanted to work with her!  It was a wonderful day when we finally got to work together and meet her fabulous husband Brandon.  Her Aunt was so gracious to host their wedding reception at her Los Angeles home.  It turned out beautiful!  Here they are…cheers to you both! J+D

H.White Special Events | The London West Hollywood

Summer is fast approaching and for all of you brides planning a Summer 2011 wedding I thought I would share some ideas for your reception table centerpieces.  Recently, I attended The Wedding Salon Event at The London West Hollywood Hotel and had the opportunity to work with Hylah White of H. White Special Events.  Hylah and her team designed this beautiful table scape to showcase at the event including a gorgeous high branch centerpiece with crystals and orchids.  This summer’s trend for table centerpieces are Nature themed with lots of tall branches and this is a great example of just that.  With an added teal textured linen this centerpiece really popped off the table!

Hope you enjoy the ideas ladies. Happy Wedding Planning! Best, Dana

Trash the Dress or Drez the Dress? | Los Angeles Wedding Photography

Getting married is one of the most magnificent days in your life.  Yes, it takes a lot of planning to make this day happen, but when you finally get there it is all you ever dreamed of.  Face it ladies we were all young girls once who dreamed of our wedding dress and someday walking down the aisle to meet our true love.  When we got there, we said, “I do!”  It was the most amazing day shared with family, friends and the love of your life.  Thankfully you took your wedding photos, so you can remember that day always.

I remember the day after my wedding, the hair came down and I thought, I am someone’s wife!  One of the first things in order was to preserve my dress.  I wanted to save it, so off to the cleaner’s it went.  About a week later my dress was clean and all boxed up and ready to tuck away in the closet.  Yes, all of that money spent, worn only for one day and only a hope that someday it will come out again!  Well, Jeff and I got married almost 10 years ago.  Yes, the 10th wedding anniversary is coming up in August, I can’t wait!  At that time, that is what we did with our wedding dress.

Today, brides still box up their dresses after the wedding, but times have changed and now we do Trash the Dress sessions.  What is a trash the dress session?   Well, some literally trash the dress by taking your gown in a scene out of the ordinary.  The bride will drag the dress,  get it wet or even dirty all in the name of art.  Others will just have a relaxed shoot after the wedding in their gown…something fun, artistic and it is just another chance to wear that fabulous dress and look pretty.

Recently, I came across this new idea for an after wedding shoot when  I was asked to do a Drez the Dress shoot.  Here a wedding dress was transformed into a beautiful floral art design by Kimberly Clark of drezrehersal Event Planning & Lifestyle Co with all flowers provided by Design Floral Art Studio.

Here the bridal gown turns into a couture piece of art!

I loved doing the shoot, there was so much room for creativity, we could do something totally different then what we may do photographing a wedding day.  The idea behind the Drez the Dress shoot is that you take your dress and transform it into a piece of art for photos, then have the dress with flowers included freeze dried and framed or maybe draped on a dress form as decor in your home.  Along with that all of the fun shots from the shoot!  Here are some shots featuring a Drez the Dress shoot.   Enjoy!
